Club History

Te Waka Taniwha (Te Waka - the boat, Taniwha - dragon in Maori) was formed in 2000 by group of friends wanting to revel in the sport's social nature.

Originally located on the Gold Coast, the club moved to north to Brisbane in 2002. Since then training has been based on the Brisbane River with crews departing from Breakfast Creek and Colmslie.

In 2007, an influx of new members saw the club and its committee reinvigorated. With a new lease on life the club has seen membership numbers grow and new boats and equipment acquired.

Today, the club is proud to be one of Queensland's top teams and represent the sport of dragon boating to the wider community.
