Come & Try Days
We invite you to experience the fun, excitement and camaraderie that dragon boating has to offer.
Te Waka Dragons aims to provide a club which allows everyone in the community to participate in this fun water sport. Dragon boating is a sport that is suitable for all ages and fitness levels to try.
Te Waka works with Brisbane City Council to provide free Come & Try dragon boating sessions through Active Parks and GOLD programs to members of the public.
Check out the Announcements section on the right of this page for the next available dates and download an information sheet on Come & Try Days.
These sessions are held at Colmslie Recreation Reserve and are free to participants and are held from 9.30 am to 11.30 a.m. We supply the boat, paddles and lifejackets.
First up, you will be given a brief safety induction and introduced to the fundamentals of dragon boat padddling. You will then be outfitted with a lifejacket, provided with a paddle and then off to enjoy paddling the Brisbane River in a dragon boat. So come along and enjoy!
Here's what others have said:
Good fun for the whole family!
Great way to get an idea of what it's all about without being too serious
Everyone very friendly
I'm coming again!
What a great school holiday experience to tell the kids at school about, thank you
It's nice to see a sporting group welcoming and encouraging young kids to have a go
Was a good effort to motivate more healthy lifestyle, I am really positive towards it now
If you don't want to wait for the next Come & Try session, we welcome new paddlers at any of our sessions at any time.
No experience is necessary. All you need to bring is a waterbottle, sunscreen, hat and a change of clothes. These are a great way to get started in an easy informal session.
If you are looking for something more intense, or are an experienced paddler, check out our current training schedule. All training sessions are run from the Ross Street boat ramp in Breakfast Creek.
